We meet here when the system lets us; gold pinned to the mountain, the cul-de-sac holding its breath like it knows our secret. You lean on the white gate, same smile, same jacket the place keeps saving for you. The town plays the long fade: palms in slow motion, a streetlamp not yet allowed to turn on, the ocean coughing up a synth line from somewhere down in Sea Point.
We walk toward the trail, talking about nothing the way people do when time is rationed. You ask if I’m staying this time. I joke about like it’s a beach club we haven’t decided on, but the Lion’s Head glows like a sign and I can feel the clock tugging at our sleeves.
When the light finally shifts, the world thins, colors flatten, sound drops a layer, and you’re already stepping back, waving like we’ll press play again next week. We always do.
That’s the trick here. Every goodbye comes with a receipt and a promise; same place, same golden hour, until we choose otherwise.
